How to get rid of?
The fight against flip flops begins with measures of mechanical impact on the affected areas. they need to be manually removed as much as possible. Hydrogen peroxide has a good effect, but this is a powerful remedy, so many weakened plants simply cannot withstand its effects and “give up” first. According to experienced aquarists, there is only one drug that really helps to cope with Vietnamese in the long term, and that is Sidex. It is able to withstand red algae, but at the same time does not cause the slightest harm to the plants themselves.
During use, it does not accumulate in the liquid, but upon oxidation it decomposes into water and carbon dioxide. And also the safety of “Sidex” for fish and other inhabitants of the aquarium fauna has been proven. To treat the tank from algae, use 15–20 ml of the composition per 100-liter reservoir.
Any therapeutic measures must be accompanied by an adjustment of the water parameters. An increase in hardness up to 8 units helps in the fight against Vietnamese. for this, potassium chloride is added to the container at the rate of 2 ml for each liter of liquid. - all inhabitants are temporarily moved to another container;
- they clean glass surfaces with a hard sponge, completely removing plaque;
- pour out the water;
- thoroughly clean the scenery, loosen the soil, then process it with a pump to remove all unnecessary particles;
- wash the aquarium outside;
- fill in new water, start up the aquarium and set up all systems;
- when the parameters of the water and temperatures return to normal, start the fish.
Green bloom is an unpleasant problem, but it is quite solvable and, most importantly, does not lead to the death of the inhabitants. If you properly take care of underwater pets, reacting in a timely manner to any changes in the aquarium, then such an attack does not threaten at all. After getting rid of algae, many aquarists try to make sure that this problem never occurs again. And this is quite real, if you take into account some of the rules of prevention.

The Blackbeard algae, also known as Compsopogon coeruleus, Black Brush Algae or BBA, are the most dangerous because of their spreading speed and intractability. This type of algae (although several species are understood by this name) is one of the most disliked by aquarists, since it is very difficult to control it. First, these algae cover the edges of slow-growing plants like Anubias, or grow in small bunches. Then they cover all the plants in the aquarium, making it look ugly. They are not dangerous for fish. It is almost impossible to remove these algae mechanically. By darkening or chemistry, in principle, you can fight them, but then they will grow again. Some fish (siamese algae eater, for example) supposedly eat it, but on the condition that they are not fed anything else.
To remove a black beard, it must be stripped of all nutrients. But she needs everything the same as the higher plants, so it is necessary to ensure that all the nutrients are consumed by the plants, and nothing goes to the beard. To do this, you need to increase biomass and reduce the amount of organic matter, nitrates and phosphates.
Plant your aquarium with fast-growing plants: any hygrophila, hornwort, nayas, ludwigia, riccia, etc. But after getting rid of the black beard, they can be removed, but perhaps you will like your new garden
In the aquarium, stop aeration and reduce filtration. Since the flow of water to the black beard will bring nutrients. With the right lighting, the plants themselves will release the right amount of oxygen into the aquarium. But if you see that the fish do not have enough of it, then simply reduce the aeration without turning off completely.

It remains only to observe how in a week and a half a black beard, that is, its hairs become whitish in color, flabby in appearance. After another 3. 5 days, these hairs will begin to fall off, and then all this muck will be removed from plants, stones, etc.
That is, we can draw a certain conclusion. a black beard does not like extreme living conditions, it is not able to resist the inconveniences of life. Therefore, do not break the cycle of struggle and bring this matter to the end.

In a ventilated aquarium, the situation was worse: the black cover thinned, but did not disappear. I had to reduce the number of fish, turn off the blowing. On this, the fight against the “Vietnamese” was successfully completed.
Now that in my aquariums occasionally appear “black beard” bushes (mainly after acquiring new plants). it doesn’t bother me anymore. I know conditions that are disastrous for harmful algae. First. Water hardness must be at least 8 °. You can increase the hardness by 8 ° as follows: for 1 liter of water prepared for replacement, you need to add 2 ml of a 10% solution of calcium chloride and 2 ml of a 6.7% solution of magnesium sulfate (to prepare 750 ml of a solution, you need 50 g of bitter MgSO4 salt).
Second. The water must have a stable alkaline reaction. This is achieved by creating a bicarbonate buffer. Add 0.2 g of baking soda to 1 liter of water (about 0.5 teaspoon per bucket). An increase in the amount of soda twice does not significantly change the alkalinity of the water, but leads to an excess of sodium, which has a bad effect on many higher plants.
Third. It is necessary to constantly remove excess organic matter from the aquarium, replacing at least a quarter of the volume of water weekly and cleaning the soil once a month.
Fourth. There should be no fish digging in the aquarium; strong blowing must not be allowed to stir up water.
Fifth. The number of fish should be limited. The best thing is to follow the recommendation given by N.F. Zolotnitsky: for 10 liters of water in the aquarium (species) there should be one fish 5-7 cm long. How to prevent flip flops
Fast growing plants will stop the growth of black beards in the aquarium. For their normal development, fertilizing with phosphate-free fertilizers, potash fertilizers is necessary. The fertilizer concentration should be high, this will stop the growth of algae. Using instruments, measure the amount of nitrates, nitrites in the water. there should be no more than 5 mg per liter of water. If there is no nitrate in the water, the plants do not absorb phosphate, which leads to the formation of unwanted algae in the aquarium, which is difficult to get rid of later.
A black beard also appears in the aquarium when you plant new, untreated plants in it. Not only can there be parasites on them, but also “flip flops” cells. Before placing a new plant in water, you need to disinfect it with the drug Bicillin-5 or penicillin. Some breeders are used to using ordinary bleach, but this substance is not sparing, and it is not easily washed off. Quarantine new plants, disinfect them with bicillin-5 (dose 150 thousand units per 10 liters of water), or penicillin (dose 50 mg per 10 liters of water). Disinfection should be carried out at a temperature of 25-26 ° C, depending on the type of plant. The solution for disinfection is injected into the water every 24 hours, before that, replacing the water. For the first 2 hours, the vessel with water must be placed in the shade, and then rearranged to a lighted place.
Plants such as elodea, anubias, kabomba do not tolerate bleach well, so this remedy is not applied to them, although the bleach solution effectively fights black beard. Bleach can be replaced with hydrogen peroxide (dose 20 ml per 100 liters of water once a day).
