Araucana Laying Colored Eggs
Representatives of the Araucana breed are distinguished by their small size and weight. The rooster weighs 2.5 kg and the hen weighs 2 kg. These birds do not have a tail or tail. But they have a beard, tassels, tanks, a tuft on their heads.
But the general European standard presented general requirements and 3 options for head plumage:
- Beard and Tanks;
- Tassels and beard.
If we consider the English version of the standard, then the presence of a tail there is permissible, but a tuft is simply necessary. The body of the bird is rounded. The back is long and the shoulders are well developed. The loin and abdomen are clearly defined. Small earrings and a pea-shaped comb.
Why chickens eat their eggs and what to do about it read here.
If birds are properly kept, then they are capable of carrying 160-180 eggs per year. Layers ripen by 5.5-6 months. But there are some individuals in which egg-laying begins quite late. by 10 months.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the Pushkin breed in this material.
Olive Eggers. description of the breed of chickens that lay green eggs
This breed is known for having two genes. blue and dark. Thus, you can get eggs of olive and green hue. Eggers chickens do not belong to the breed, but are a hybrid. Chickens are picky about leaving. They feed on almost everything. Individuals differ in lush plumage. Their color can be brown, dark gray, gray-black. The limbs are high, bare, four-fingered.
Find out how to increase the egg production of layers here.
The body is massive, the tail is lush. The earrings, beard and comb have a scarlet color. The productivity of chickens is 200 eggs per year. The weight of one is 65 g. The shell is blue in color, and is quite strong.
Legbar is a bird that can lay blue and blue eggs
Legbars have a pretty funny look. They have a lush and round body, due to which they look like cute koloboks. Individuals move on short, non-false limbs. Despite this, the hens still retain their royal charm.
In addition, they have a small lush crest on their heads. It also has a red comb and earrings with a red tint. The laying hen weighs up to 3 kg, and the male weighs up to 3.6 kg. The feathers of the individual are thick, lush and dense.
Females are distinguished by early maturity. They also owe this to their ancestors. Laying of eggs begins by 4-6 months. And full maturation occurs by 10-12 months. But this breed has one significant drawback. it is a tendency to obesity. This leads to delayed puberty. So getting large blue testicles at first will not work. You will need to wait a couple of months until the laying hen begins to actively move and eat well. Her first eggs weigh 40 g, and then this value increases to 75 g.
Why don’t they rush and what to do about it, find out at the proposed link.
Laying hen breed Ameraucan
This breed is universal. Its representatives have a meat and egg direction. But the peculiarity of the breed is the ability to lay blue eggs. It is due to the high productivity and great taste of meat that Ameraukana has gained great popularity among farmers, both beginners and experienced. Another name is characteristic for Ameraukan. Easter chicken. This is due to the fact that hens are capable of laying eggs of different colors, among which you can see blue.
In addition, the breed has an attractive appearance. The color of the perev, depending on the types of chickens, can be different. It is also quite lush. This makes the appearance of the birds important and proud. Chickens begin to lay eggs at 5 months. At the same time, body weight gain occurs very quickly.
It is enough to look at a chicken of this breed to understand that it has a complex character. And the dense plumage gives them pride. Chickens have sideburns and a beard that make their appearance important. The bird also has large eyes and an expressive look. Their color can be red or red-brown.
What to do if a bird lays eggs without shells, this information will help you understand.
Birds are distinguished by widely spaced limbs. The earlobes are small and oval in shape. They are also called earrings. The tail is short, the wings are large, and the beak is rather curved. The comb looks like a bead. It starts at the beak and ends at the top of the head.
Easter chicken, in addition to lush plumage, can take on various colors. There are 8 colors in total, including:
- The black,
- Red brown,
- Dark yellow,
- Blue with wheat tint.
Productivity in chickens lasts 2 years. On average, a laying hen is capable of producing 200-250 eggs of different shades per year, among which it has blue. These birds are also characterized by delicious and tender meat. Laying hen weighs 2-2.5 kg and male 3.5 kg.

Blue chicken eggs: who lays green and blue eggs. chicken breeds
Today, as a result of breeding work, it has been possible to breed chickens capable of laying blue eggs. Of course, there are not so many of them, but each of them has its own characteristics of appearance, content and productivity. Often, farmers are engaged in breeding such birds only because of the opportunity to get eggs of an unusual color.
This video will tell you about the features of caring for legbar chickens.
Every farmer can have blue eggs today. This eliminates the need for staining. If you purchase one of the given breeds of chickens, then the testicles of blue or olive color are provided to you. But the high productivity of these individuals is achieved only with proper care. You can find a photo of the dominant breed at the link.
A unique feature of all thrush are small eggs with amazing colors and shades. They are presented in blue or light green hues, which makes them stand out from the eggs of other birds. In rare cases, the eggs of the bird are of the same color. If specks appear on the shell, this indicates a certain type of pigmentation. During the development of the egg, the concentration of a substance such as protoporfin is carried out. a powerful photosensitizer capable of absorbing light from sunlight and converting it into oxygen, which is very important for the full growth of chick embryos.
Currently, more than 46 species of thrush can be distinguished. Each of them lays unique eggs with a unique color. Distinguishing one species from another is easy enough. And although the differences in shades, shape and pattern are insignificant, if you look closely at them, you can understand how they differ. The most common are blue eggs, but other shades are also found in nature.
Blue eggs. What birds lay blue eggs
Among the different bird species, the blackbirds are among the most interesting. They are small birds of the order of passerines, a genus of short-billed, which are characterized by an amazing appearance, hardy character and excellent singing abilities. The presence of a bird in a city park, forest or garden is necessarily accompanied by unsurpassed musical compositions that can surprise every passer-by.
When the chorus of blackbirds begins its singing, everything around it seems to come to life and fill with a fabulous atmosphere. Ornithologists treat the thrush with special attention, considering it to be very valuable representatives of the forest fauna of different regions.
Benefits to the ecosystem
Not everyone knows that the thrush performs a lot of useful tasks for the forest ecosystem. In spring and summer, the bird destroys entire colonies of dangerous pests that disrupt the growth of trees, shrubs and other plants. Scientists have proven that in two weeks the thrush flies into the nest about two hundred times, each time bringing a fresh portion of insects in its beak. Newborn, blind cubs remain in the care of adults for another fourteen days. At this time, they work hard and look for food. But even if the chicks grow up, their parents will not cease to bring great benefits to the ecosystem by spreading plant seeds in the process of eating plant food.
Thrushes are one of the most important orderlies in forests, parks and gardens. Their role in wildlife life is very important.
Description of the bird. Area
A significant part of songbirds, fieldfare and missel birds live in the forests of the European continent, Asia and North Africa. Less commonly in this area you can find:
- Little Thrush, which prefers cold Siberia and the forest-tundra of North America;
- A blue stone thrush that needs dry mountain gorges and steep ocean shores. And although this bird can be found in Asia, Europe and Africa, the number of individuals is very small;
Considering the example of the blackbird, this forest dweller is able to reproduce the most complex musical compositions, including a set of sad flute whistles, similar to the sounds of the singing of a deer. But in the latter they are very melancholic. The thrush sings very loudly and cheerfully, filling the surroundings with an atmosphere of fun and joy.
It is important to pay attention to the redbird thrush. Representatives of this species are capable of humming local tunes, which are a bright combination of rising and falling whistles. The duration of the whistle may vary depending on the region. For example, residents of city parks sing much differently than individuals living in the wild. For many years, scientists believed that birds with family ties were the basis of the red-browed groups. But later it became known that young chicks are able to repeat the local tunes of adults, therefore the characteristic singing is passed from generation to generation through diligent training.
Which bird has blue eggs
Birds can have noble brown or light olive plumage with characteristic dark brown specks. In addition, in nature there are individuals with a completely black body and small specks in the tail area. It is possible to meet thrush in different countries and climatic zones, due to the lack of particular whimsy in terms of choosing a habitat. Many species are not considered rare and are very common. Among them:
- Meadow coinage;
- The black;
And many others.
The bird uses insects and earthworms as food, which live in natural litter. With the arrival of the autumn cold, berries appear in the diet.
What are the eggs in different species of thrush?
The eggs of the Swanson American Thrush, with a unique tail and wingtip color, have a very beautiful, pronounced blue color. The shell is covered with small brown specks. The bird creates large nests on the basis of dry grass, which it diligently collects throughout its life. Due to the unique blue egg feature, birdwatchers’ interest in the American Thrush continues to grow. In addition, the background blue color has many shades, including:
- Bright turquoise;
In this case, the specks are painted in a brownish-rusty color and have different sizes.
A modest member of the hermit thrush family leads an overly shy and secretive lifestyle. The bird rarely shows itself to the eye and always hides in the thickets of branches from the surrounding danger. The plumage is colored in brown tones, while some of the chest is distinguished by a blurred spot. The hermit thrush lays plain eggs with a delicate greenish-blue color. On their shell, there are no specks characteristic of eggs of other types. When creating a nest, the bird chooses tall trees that are difficult for predators to reach and are an excellent place where sunlight penetrates well;
In turn, songbirds are represented by a fairly large population in different regions of the world. The plumage color is distinguished by faint olive and gray shades, while the color of the specks retains the tones of the color of dark chocolate. The eggs are colored bright turquoise and have unique, tiny, dark specks. In many cases, the specks are also colored dark chocolate.
Features of the life cycle of the blackbird
The blackbird lays greenish eggs with a darker olive tint. The shell is strewn with characteristic light brown spots. In addition, the egg clutch of some individuals is represented by eggs with a grayish-green tint and large chocolate specks. At the bottom, the egg has a brown pigment.
Outwardly, representatives of the species look very solid and graceful. The plumage is completely black and the beak is yellow. The rims around the eyes are orange or red (depending on the physiological characteristics of the individual). On the cancellation from other thrush, this species stands out for its large size and characteristic lifestyle.
Studying the behavior of a thrush bird, you can notice a lot of unique features and secrets. For this reason, many bird watchers and true bird fans are increasingly interested in the life cycle of such a common forest dweller.
What chickens lay colorful eggs
- 1 Olive Eggers
- 2 Araucan
- 3 Legbar
- 4 Ameraucana
Most chickens lay white eggs. Some exotic breeds have blue and green eggs. These are araucana, legbar, eggers, ameraucana and others.
The legbar has a reddish crest, earrings, short non-false limbs. On the head is a small lush tuft. The female weighs up to 3 kg, the male. up to 3.7 kg. They are distinguished by thick, dense and lush plumage. Among them, a marriage is considered to be white chickens, which are inherited from their ancestors, and they are not taken for breeding.
Legbar eggs first weigh about 40 g, then 70 g. Females have a significant drawback. a tendency to obesity, which leads to a delay in puberty. Full puberty is reached by 9-12 months, and the first clutch occurs at 4-5 months.
Araucana lays eggs not only blue, but also green and sometimes even pink. This is due to the fact that there is red hemoglobin in the bile of birds.
The bird species is resistant to cold, diseases, has a decorative egg direction. Females are non-conflicting, males tend to fight other males. Puberty is 5-6 months, producing a maximum of 181 testicles per year. High vitality is noted.
To select the best variety, you need to look at the following characteristics:
- The tip of the beak is bent downwards of medium size;
- The scallop is pod-shaped;
- Males are larger than females;
- The presence of bright feathery sideburns with a small head;
- The eyes are orange-red;
- The tail is missing, the body is short, straight posture, the chest is wide;
- The wings fit tightly to the body;
- Feathered, blue-green legs.
Weight ranges from 1.4 to 2 kg. Females are decorative, but differ in productivity in egg production.
Due to the numerous breeding measures, the Araucana lost her hatching instinct. If a female of an ordinary breed is fertilized by a purebred male Araucana, the laying hen will lay blue eggs, but the chicks will not look like a male.
Chickens start laying eggs 5-6 months after birth. Egg weight. up to 55 g, then increases to 75 g. After molting, productivity remains the same. The eggs of this breed have less cholesterol than regular chickens.
Disease resistant. Weather conditions, irritating factors are practically not a concern for natural protection. They are afraid of parasites, so the chicken coop should be disinfected. Mostly affected by worms or fleas. Symptoms of chicken infection:
- They stop eating, they stop laying eggs. It is worth calling a veterinarian.
- Feather mite: does not spare feathers, birds instantly go bald. In this case, they are sent for slaughter. This type of parasite is the most dangerous for birds.
- Puff lice begin to eat plumage, and the birds become fussy, nervous, this leads to a decrease in appetite. Treat with drugs.
- In the summer, collisions between domestic chickens and wild birds are fraught with flea transmission. The disease can become a serious threat to the poultry house. It is worth carrying out thorough prevention of individuals, premises.
The birds of this breed are black-gray, brown, gray. Lush tail, scarlet scallop. They are not a breed, but rather hybrid creatures with the blue and dark chicken genes. Olive eggers are practically the only bird that lays green eggs. It demolishes about 210 pieces per year with an average weight of 66 g. The shell is quite strong.
The meat of the birds is tasty, the body is massive, the weight is 2-3 kg. They can eat both industrial compound feed and animal meat.
The Ameraucana breed is universal (decorative and meat-egg). This species belongs to the chickens that lay blue eggs. But they can sometimes have eggs of various shades, which makes them unlike any other breed. Westerners breed a subspecies with a tail, but cut off the tails. People in Germany prefer tailless chickens with funny ears.
Egg production is observed from 5 months, by this time the female is gaining a decent mass. The eyes are brownish red, wide and expressive. Sideburns also give importance to their appearance. The crest starts from the beak and goes up to the top of the head. Earlobes are small and oval.
Ameraucana, like all hybrid breeds, has a big drawback. the lack of hatching instinct. Productivity lasts 2 years, the male has a mass of 3.5 kg, the female. 2-2.5 kg. During these two years, she is able to produce about 400-500 eggs of different shades.
What chickens lay colored eggs
Adding an article to a new collection
Perhaps not everyone knows that there are chicken breeds that are capable of laying eggs of unusual shades, for example, green and turquoise. Such breeds were developed in China, but have already become popular in other countries, mainly among private owners.
Alla Litvinchuk, a poultry farmer from the Moscow region, shares her experience in growing amazing chickens.
Alla, what did you pay special attention to when choosing a breed?
When I decided to have chickens, the question was, which ones? Thoroughbred or hybrid laying hens. Egg crosses have an increased egg production, but at the same time the birds are low in weight, since they were bred exclusively to lay eggs. They will have maximum egg production for one and a half years, and then they practically stop laying, because K. Not intended for long-term storage. Poultry can be cut, but egg crosses have practically no meat.
Cross is a hybrid of several breeds of any animal. The hybrid form has the exceptionally best qualities of its parents. Crossbreeding is widespread in the poultry industry. An interbreed hybrid can be additionally crossed with another breed, and this continues until a highly productive cross is bred. They do not get offspring from crosses, since it will be weak and unproductive.
Having carefully studied all the information, I decided to start a thoroughbred bird of meat and egg direction. Such chickens run well for four years, and also have good meat qualities. From them, you can annually receive thoroughbred young animals, renew the breeding herd.
I began to choose the breeds that suit me. And what was my surprise when I saw green, blue and chocolate eggs! After all, I used to think that there are only two colors of the shell: white and brown.
And what breeds did you choose??
Today I have 5 breeds of chickens: lukedanji (chickens that lay green eggs), uheyiluy (green eggs with a bluish tint), Adler silver (beige eggs), maran (chocolate eggs) and Pavlovskaya golden (light cream eggs).
In China, more than 10 breeds of chickens have been bred that lay green eggs. These birds are called “lukedan”. Their color ranges from white to black. Chickens with black plumage are called “uheyiluy”. In Chinese it means “5 black, 1 green” because birds have black feathers, black skin, black comb, black meat, black bones, and eggs are green.
Please tell us more about chickens laying green eggs: what are the external features of birds?
The name of the breed (or several breeds) lukedanji literally translated from Chinese sounds like “chickens laying green eggs”. The livestock of my chickens boasts beautiful dense red plumage. However, the color of these birds often varies.
For chickens of the uheyiluy breed, a solid black color is characteristic without any inclusions and spots. Even the bird’s claws are black. In daylight, you can see that the plumage casts a beautiful green tint. The scallop and lobes are dark purple. The body is compact, the rib cage and wings are well developed.
These breeds belong to the meat and egg direction. Lukedanji is slightly larger in size than wuheyilu. Average weight of lukedanji: cock. 2.5 kg, chicken. 1.4-1.6 kg; uheyiluy: cockerel. 1.5-2 kg, hens 1.1-1.5 kg.
Chickens uheyiluy fly great. For them, a two-meter fence will not be an obstacle either. Therefore, they need to be kept in an area closed by a grid.
The egg production of lukedanji, according to my observations, is slightly higher than that of uheyilui. Both those and others begin to rush at the age of 4.5-5 months. By the way, the saturation of the shade largely depends on the time of year: in the warm months, the shell is often bright, and in the cold season, the shade is less pronounced. The fact is that the lack of sunlight reduces the production of biliverdin and other pigments.
In addition to color, what else are green eggs unusual?
Wuheyilu and lukedanji eggs are in great demand in the Russian market, since they contain much more amino acids and trace elements than eggs of cross-laying hens. The yolk in these eggs is large with an orange tint. Egg weight. 45-55 g. Of course, the conditions of keeping and the diet of the birds influence the composition of the eggs. It is believed in China that regular consumption of green eggs improves health and slows down aging.
Here are the main advantages of uheyilu and lukedanji eggs:
- Strengthen the immune system;
- Activate brain cells and improve memory;
- Reduce cholesterol levels;
- Contributes to the normalization of blood pressure;
- Prevents the development of thyroid cancer;
- Contribute to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases;
- Have a positive effect on the growth of the child’s body;
- Have a preventive effect on a variety of other diseases.
And the meat of chickens of these Chinese breeds is also special.?
The dark meat of these chickens is also very healthy and easily absorbed by the body. A unique feature of meat is that it contains carnosine, a peptide that keeps cells young. Today carnosine is considered the most effective anti-aging ingredient known to science. Dark chicken tastes soft and tender.
The unusual color of the meat and its unique composition make these poultry very popular among poultry farmers.
Chickens of all breeds are kept separately?
The coop is divided into several sections, and each breed lives separately from each other. But everyone is kept in the same conditions. Daylight hours for the whole bird are about 14 hours, the temperature in the cold season is always the same: 16 ° C. Chickens walk a lot in the fresh air, if the weather permits.
What kind of food do you give the chickens? Are you taking any vitamin supplements?
I feed mainly with compound feed. Sometimes I give a crushed grain mixture: in dry form or in the form of mash with the addition of vegetables. In the summer, I definitely throw freshly cut grass. In winter, I introduce beets, cabbage, pumpkin, carrots into the feed. Once every 2-3 months I give chickens a vitamin complex and carry out the prevention of the appearance of worms and coccidosis.
Is there any difficulty in growing wuheyilu and lukedanji?
It is quite easy to keep chickens of these breeds.. of course, pluses than minuses.
- Ideal for lovers of exotic. 2 in 1: their exterior is very unusual, and productivity is also high;
- Delicious and healthy eggs,
- Meat with excellent taste and a lot of useful components;
- High and early egg production;
- Excellent survival rate of brood and young stock;
- High health indicators and strong immunity to diseases;
- Simplicity of content;
- Easy adaptation to new conditions.
Disadvantages of these breeds:
- The high cost of hatching eggs and brood chicks;
- Decreased egg production in the second year of life;
- Wild character.
Each breed of chicken has its merits and I really enjoy breeding this poultry. I post a lot of interesting material, new videos about raising chickens on my Instagram page.
Breeding purebred chickens can become not only a hobby, but also a profitable business. Especially if you grow birds of those breeds that are in demand in the market.
Blackbird masonry: why it has different shades
Naturalists have long noticed that the eggs of thrushes can be blue, with a blue or green tint, with specks or without dots on the shell. Many researchers of nature were surprised by this feature. In the process of evolution, the color of the bird clutch should have become less bright so that predators could not notice from afar, and after a while ruin the nest. Nevertheless, the bright color has been preserved, and the shade options depend on the species of the bird.
The body of a female laying bright eggs is forced to synthesize a blue, blue or green pigment (biliverdin), taking as a basis part of its own hemoglobin. As a result, during the formation of eggs, the concentration of protoporphyrin increases, which is responsible for the color of the shell.
According to scientists, this process allows the shell to reflect ultraviolet light and minimize its detrimental effect on the DNA of the future chick. At the same time, the embryo receives enough heat for development, without the risk of overheating.
Laying hens of colored eggs
Farms are increasingly growing not only the usual breeds of chickens, but also exotic layers of “Easter surprises” of blue, green, bluish shades. One of them is the Araucana, a chicken that lacks a tail as well as tail vertebrae. Another feature by which the breed standard is determined is the unusual plumage on the head.
Multicolored eggs (up to 250 per year) are laid by Ameraucans. This breed has a second name. “Easter hens”. productive layers are Legbar chickens (up to 350 pieces per year). It is important to ensure that they do not overeat and move a lot, because obese birds will not fly. Farmers also speak affectionately with them and monitor the presence of vitamins in their diet.
Features of the color of the masonry of different types of thrush
The clutch of thrushes has a blue background color. It can have turquoise, green, gray shades and specks.
Songbirds often have a bright blue clutch. There are also dark specks on the shell. Representatives of this species of birds have large populations, so naturalists often find their nests in their natural environment. You can recognize growing chicks and adults by the plumage of olive and gray flowers.
Swenson’s American thrush lays bright blue with brown specks in a nest woven from dry grass. The range of birds falls on the territory of Alaska, Canada, the northern part of the USA.
Another species of these birds. the hermit thrush. in addition to the manner of hiding its location from other inhabitants of forests and forest park zones, is distinguished by the shade of its masonry. The eggshell is colored turquoise with a green tint and has no specks. Chicks hatch in nests, which are located high in the crowns of trees.
What birds lay blue and green eggs
Let’s talk about which birds have blue eggs. Usually the color of the bird clutch is inconspicuous, white or gray. It is difficult for predators to detect it, which allows future chicks to survive. However, some species of birds lay eggs in unusual, bright colors. Bird watchers are trying to explain why the shells can be of these colors. A similar phenomenon is characteristic of some wild winged and domestic chickens, which farmers in Europe and the United States call “Easter”.

What other birds are known for colored eggs
Chaffinch is a bird that pleases people with its singing, similar to the trills of a nightingale. Distributed in forests and parks of the Russian Federation and many European countries. A bluish or reddish clutch with a green tint, the female and the male hatch alternately. Purple spots are also visible on the shell.
Starling birds, known for their mockingbird talent, lay light blue eggs. They are mainly incubated by the female, the male obtains food and can sometimes change his chosen one in the clutch during the nesting period. Chicks hatch after a dozen days.
The composition of eggs and the dishes that can be prepared from them
Blue and green eggs of laying hens, or as they are also called by farmers. “Easter”, are edible. They are identical to those with a white shell. They include:
- Useful trace elements: zinc, iodine, magnesium;
- Amino acids;
- Fast-digesting protein.
However, they should not be abused due to their high cholesterol content. In addition, many people are allergic to egg white.
Nests with blue, green, blue masonry are surprising to wildlife researchers. By the color shades of the shell and the presence (absence) of specks, it is possible to determine the clutch of which bird was found.
If the article turned out to be informative for you, then like it. And in the comments write what birds nests you accidentally found in parks or summer cottages.
Poultry farmers may experience situations when, for some unknown reason, in the summer, the chickens for some reason stopped laying eggs. And the cause can be different diseases of layers:
- Non-communicable diseases. For example, inflammation of the oviduct and yolk peritonitis, ovariitis, salpingitis, bronchopneumonia, intestinal flu.
Diseases that provoke inflammatory processes in the oviduct can be cured on their own. To do this, it is necessary to wash the oviduct with running water and for 20 days drink the hen with a solution of iodine and potassium (3 mg per chicken).
- Infectious diseases. For example, pullorosis typhoid, colibacillosis and prostogonymiosis.
- Viral diseases. This can be bird flu, Newcastle disease (pseudo-plague), chicken pox, tuberculosis, etc.
The main symptom of any disease in a laying hen is lethargy, inactivity and lack of appetite. Additional symptoms include diarrhea, ruffled feathers, aggressiveness.
Pigeons and crows, which often fly into the territory of an uncovered poultry house, or if the bird is kept free-range, can be sources of disease.
Timely vaccinations and timely deposition of diseased birds from the main flock will help minimize the spread of disease. At the time of jigging, sick chickens need to organize additional care, good and high-quality nutrition.
The presence in the hen house of a box with a mixture of ash, sand and clay in equal quantities will serve as the prevention of some poultry diseases: such as ticks, fleas, lice.
Often, poultry farmers have situations when the laying hen suddenly stopped laying, and as a result, it turns out that the place of laying has changed. There are several reasons for this:
- A sharp drop in temperature. For example, in winter, the chicken began to rush cold in the same place, and she found a place warmer and without drafts. Or, conversely, in the hot summer season, the chicken found a place in the shade;
- Change of flocking positions in the hen house. Perhaps the older or younger individual oppresses the chicken. This hierarchy disappears if food is available in sufficient quantity and no one has to fight for it;
- A peculiar choice of chicken regarding comfort conditions. So, if it is convenient for the laying hen to lay in a certain place, then the testicles will always be located by the farmer exactly there.
Conditions of detention
In order not to be disappointed in the future and not to incur losses in the future, it is worth taking care of the conditions of keeping your chickens. First of all, they consist in a properly organized poultry house:
- To keep chickens, a separate room should be allocated on an elevated area (to avoid flooding) with a place for walking.
- The dimensions of the room must be calculated in advance. The optimal room is considered with the calculation of 1 sq. M 5 layers.
- Maintain daylight hours for females, it cannot be less than 14 hours. Lighting in the chicken coop in the summer can be provided by large windows or vents, and in winter it is necessary to arrange additional lighting. Short daylight hours will also affect the behavior of the hen: hens become lethargic and inactive, and as a result, productivity decreases.
- Ensure that there are no temperature changes in the hen house. To maintain the optimum air temperature, the ceiling of the chicken coop should not exceed 1.8 meters. The presence of windows, vents or hoods will allow the air to not stagnate in the room, the main thing is to avoid drafts. The construction of a manhole door (no more than 35 cm) will help keep warm in the poultry house in winter time.
- If possible, additional heating of the room should be provided for the comfortable keeping of laying hens in winter.
- It is best to cover the floor in the chicken coop with a litter. For these purposes, sawdust, hay, straw or dry leaves are suitable. This kind of bedding will help keep warm and avoid additional heating during winter. Litter thickness must be at least 50 cm.
- Build perches on the lighted side of the house at a height of no more than 1.2 m, made of wooden beams 4–6 cm across. It is better to place the rungs of the perch at a distance of at least 35 cm, based on the calculation of 20 cm of the required area per chicken.
- Build nests on the darkened side of the house (1 nest for 5 females), connected in blocks on a small elevation. The nests are covered with straw, hay and sawdust.
- Install feeders in the chicken coop and on the walking area. Feeders are long narrow boxes, the capacity of which may vary depending on the number of chickens. So, to prevent fights, each chicken requires 10-15 cm of a feeder. It will also be optimal to place the feeder on a small elevation, this will not allow chickens to climb into the feeder with their whole body and limit access to food for other individuals.
- Provide drinking bowls in the hen house and on the walking area, the optimal capacity is 5–6 liters. Laying hens especially drink a lot before bedtime and after a laid egg.
- Maintaining good hygiene in the house and in the surrounding area. Hygiene means timely replacement of bedding, periodic cleaning of droppings and regular washing of drinkers.
Chickens rush badly: what to do
It is known that chicken is considered poultry, the main purpose of keeping which, in addition to being source of meat, is considered to be their main product. eggs. Each farmer creates all the conditions for his layers to justify this goal with their productivity. But there are times when completely healthy chickens for no reason and at the same time stopped laying. In this article, we will talk in detail about the reasons for this phenomenon.
- Conditions of detention
- Little space in the chicken coop
- Poor nutrition
- Bad cock
- Stress and fatigue
- Other masonry
- Inattention of poultry farmers
Productive age begins after 4.5 months. A well-developed red comb is a sign that the hen is ready for laying.
You can check the readiness for laying in the following way: the pullet must be turned over on its back and held with your fingers along the sternum to the lower abdomen. If the finger deepens completely between the groped pubic bones, after 4 weeks the pullet will be ready to roost.
But too early launch into clutch and high productivity of young animals will directly affect the decrease in egg production. As a result, several months after the launch, situations arise when pullets do not lay, and farmers do not always understand what to do in such situations. To solve the problem, you need to give the hens time to recover. Regular supplements can help restore strength:
- Vitamin A: Found in carrots, alfalfa, clover leaves, grass flour, fish oil;
- Vitamin B: found in feed and baker’s yeast, bran, fish meal;
- Vitamin D: Found in fish oil, haymeal, and irradiated yeast
- Vitamin E: Found in lettuce leaves, wheat germ seeds, peas, grass flour.
Productive age of laying hens. up to 2 years.
Periodically, poultry farmers should conduct an audit in the poultry house and replenish the herd with pullets on time.
Little space in the chicken coop
Chickens do not like crowding, therefore, with a large crowding of individuals, egg production significantly decreases.
With the correct organization of the conditions of detention, in particular, calculations of the size of the room (for 1 square meter. 5 chickens) and the equipment of a sufficient number of nests (for 5 chickens 1 nest), the farmer will not face such a problem.
The ability of egg production is directly affected by the nutrition of chickens. Poor nutrition is becoming the main reason a hen lays eggs without shells. In general, the feeding process is very simple, but for balance and nutrition it is worthwhile to think a little about the diet of the chickens.
A balanced daily diet, per layer, consists of:
- 120 g of a mixture of grain: corn, wheat, barley, oats (in a percentage ratio of 4: 2: 2: 3);
- 100 g boiled potatoes;
- 30 g mash (boiled or steamed chopped mixture of grain and mixed feed);
- 3 g of chalk;
- 7 g sunflower cake;
- 1 g baker’s yeast;
- 2 g bone meal;
- 30 g of chopped greens;
- 50 mg table salt;
- 3 g of chalk;
- 5 g shell rock.
The presence of chalk, shell rock and bone meal in the diet on an ongoing basis will have a beneficial effect on the structure of the eggshell. Additional complementary foods can be used if the bird has not been walking. Fresh greens, grass or tops are used as complementary foods.
In winter, hay harvested in summer can be added to the diet.
You need to feed the chickens twice a day. Feeding will be optimal:
- In the morning, more juicy food;
- In the afternoon. dry grain mixture.
Feeding is desirable in 3-4 meals during the day. But with the obligatory condition that the first feeding is done immediately after waking up (or turning on the light in winter), and the last feeding is done one hour before bedtime (or turning off the light in winter). Two daily feedings should be at equal intervals.
You should not give food in excess or in very small quantities, this will affect productivity. The fact that chickens are not expecting the next feed is considered a sign of satiety. The quality of egg laying is affected by the lack of minerals and vitamins in solid foods. Timely added calcium, phosphorus and vitamins will help to increase it. Additional premixes, amino acids and vitamins specially formulated for poultry can be purchased at veterinary clinics.
The presence of a rooster does not affect the productivity of unfertilized eggs (lack of offspring), but its presence affects the usefulness of the herd. The thing is that the chickens obey the rooster unquestioningly. With a bad and weak rooster, a certain disorder forms in the herd. Chickens obey the rooster without question, and a good rooster always keeps the flock together and makes sure that everyone has enough space at the feeders and in the nests.
Stress and fatigue
Stress and fatigue affect the absorption of food.
Chickens are very shy and careful. They are very sensitive to any changes in their lifestyle:
- Noise and loud noises are distressing and make the herd nervous. The appearance of a new rooster or a young hen in the herd also scares them;
- Stress can be caused by a sudden change in the diet of layers;
- Having got used to a certain kind of food, it is very difficult for a chicken to perceive a new diet;
- Layers love stability, so changing the amount of feed offered (up or down) will also leave an imprint on the toes of the eggs;
- Changing the range can also lead to some unrest in the herd.
To get out of a stressful situation, it is necessary to give the chickens time to adapt to new conditions. As a rule, adaptation occurs within a week.
This method will help the hens to cope with the feelings faster: dilute 20 ml of apple cider vinegar in a liter of water and serve to the bird throughout the week.
